3Dynamic explores a textile technology that combines the flexibility of fabric with the rigidity of 3D-printed structures with an embedded nichrome wire. When an electric current passes through the nichrome wire, it heats up, softening the plastic structure on the textile, making the textile flexible. When the current stops, the plastic structure hardens again, locking it into a new shape. This creates a material that can switch between soft and rigid states. We applied this in a reusable medical cast concept.
